The Provincial Summer Ball

The Winter Gardens at Margate once again provided the venue for the Summer Ball - a splendid occasion attended by 494 people.

The 2011/12 Board of Provincial Stewards, under the capable Chairmanship of David Flemming, have worked hard throughout the year to organize and set up arrangements for the evening.

Coloured fluorescent table centre pieces added to a stunning impression as guests gathered for dinner; a superb three course culinary delight. After the loyal toast had been proposed by The Provincial Grand Master, RWBro Geoffrey Dearing and the National Anthem sung, the Provincial Grand Master was escorted to the floor, flanked by the Board of Stewards and led by the evening’s Master of Ceremonies, Steve Bispham.

The PGM delivered a short and enthusiastically received address following which David Flemming presented Mrs. Liz Dearing with a bouquet of flowers on behalf of the Stewards. The Chairman went on to explain that although the Ball had been conceived to support the 2014 Festival, the financial objectives had been met and that this evening should be all about fun and enjoyment.

100 Tombola prizes were available to be won on the night and there was an opportunity to bid for a small number of ‘special and unusual’ items that had been donated. The Provincial Grand Master kindly drew the winning tickets of the Grand Raffle and Cruise Raffle.

Midnight Boulevard, who presented a unique themed journey with a sequence of popular music from the 1940s to the present day, provided the entertainment. The evening’s festivities drew to a close at 1am.

The Board of Stewards would like to thank the sponsors, advertisers and those who promoted ticket sales for the Ball. A very impressive total of £24,571.18 was raised for the 2014 Festival.
