A Surprise Presentation

60 Year Certificate for Mike Jenner

WBro Harold Ivo Jenner, PPrJGW, commonly known as Mike, is a retired Police Inspector in Kent. He was initiated into the Medway Lodge No 1678 in Tunbridge Wells, in the Province of Kent, now in the Province of West Kent, on 26th November 1952. On 2nd February 1966 he became a founder member of the Malling Centenary Lodge No 8068, of which he became Master in 1975 and an honorary member on 23rd March 2010. Hence, Mike completed 60 years of service in Freemasonry on Monday 26th November 2012.

The preparations to celebrate this special occasion at the regular meeting of the lodge on Tuesday 27th November were all in place. Assistant Provincial Grand Master Nicholas (Nick) Waller had been delighted to accept an invitation to attend and present Mike with a long service certificate and a retinue of Active Provincial Grand Lodge officers, members and guests were expected.

Prior to the day, the secretary broke the news that Mike was now resident in the Lavenders Care Home in West Malling, enjoying the delights of being pampered, and would be unable to attend the meeting. WBro Nick kindly offered to make the presentation at the Home and arrangements were made with the family.

The staff and the residents of the care home, together with Mike’s daughter and son-in-law, assembled in the large lounge where Nick, the Worshipful Master and the Secretary of the lodge had hidden in the conservatory. The unsuspecting Mike was escorted from his room to the lounge, made comfortable, and then delighted by the unexpected appearance of the brethren.

Following an explanation of what had been planned and the reading of the citation, Nick presented Mike with his long service certificate, to the sound of rapturous applause by all present.

After the exchange of some kind words and witty banter, the brethren made their way back to the masonic hall for the meeting, at which Nick explained what had happened at the Home. He said "It is such an honour to be able to present a certificate to celebrate 60 years in Freemasonry and it was delightful that Mike’s family was able to be present. A true family occasion to honour a man’s commitment to the principles and tenets of Freemasonry; truly inspirational"
