50 Year Certificate for Arthur Poynter

W Bro Arthur Poynter was initiated into the General Gordon Lodge No 4292 on 28th October 1963. He was 42 years old at the time and recently, at the good age of 92, he celebrated his 50th anniversary in Freemasonry.

Arthur, who is now an Honorary Member of the Lodge, is virtually bed-ridden and unable to attend normally. However to mark this special occasion, and with the help of his daughter Melanie and one of his carers, he was able to attend a short ceremony held in the Chatham Masonic Centre before the Lodge’s regular meeting in November.

W Bro Michael Locke, a senior Past Master of the Lodge, presented Arthur with his Long Service Certificate in the presence of other Lodge members, his daughter and grandson Theo. The Worshipful Master, W Bro Roy Leaney, then presented Arthur with an engraved beer tankard – a gift from the Lodge. Since Arthur is hard-of-hearing the Lodge Almoner, W Bro Bob Jackson, gave him a running commentary on what was happening.

W Bro Arthur was Master of the Lodge in 1977 and, since then, has served as Assistant Secretary and two stints as Lodge Organist. He was promoted to Past Provincial Junior Grand Warden in 2001 and, in Provincial Grand Chapter, was appointed as Provincial Grand Organist in 1994 before being promoted to Past Provincial Grand Registrar in 2001.
