Canon Sharpe Memorial Lecture 2014

The Masters of all seven Ashford lodges with Roger Odd and John Burgess

Stour Lodge No 2305 had the honour of hosting this year's Canon Sharpe Memorial Lecture at their regular meeting on Thursday 20th November.

The seven lodges in Ashford take turns to host a Lecture or Meeting in memory of the late Canon Sharpe who was a much-loved Grand Officer and a member of Stour Lodge until his sad passing a few years ago. Brethren from all Ashford Lodges are encouraged to attend in order to get to know one another.

This year the occasion was marked by a presentation of the 2013 Cornwallis Lecture entitled “Freemasonry and Religion”, by WBro Rev Philip Cox, a member of Invicta Lodge No 709. Some 90 Brethren attended the meeting, including the Masters of all seven Ashford lodges, all of which contributed to a memorable evening.

The photo shows all seven Ashford Masters, lined up under their respective banners, together with the Deputy Provincial Grand Master, VW Bro Roger Odd and the Deputy Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies, WBro John Burgess. They are as follows (from left to right): WBros Jeff Davis (Lodge of Loyalty No 9494), Graham Jolly (Lodge St George Bahrain No 7389), John Burgess, VW Bro Roger Odd, WBros Robert James (Stour Lodge No 2303), Wilson McVittie (Invicta Lodge No 709), Micky Smith (South Kent Lodge No 4303), Tony Poynter (Ashford Lodge No 8945) and Ernie Nicholls (Essetesforde Lodge No 9746).
